Desmond Corrado and Mark Phillips traveled to the land of Chocolate to compete in the PIAA State XC Championships. The field consisted of the best 211 runners in the state of Pennsylvania. The boys came into the race ranked 76th (Desmond) and 185th (Mark) compiled by each runners season best times. Desmond had higher expectations setting a goal of top 30, he came up short after suffering a severe cramp early in the race. Despite the pain he fought through to a very respectable finish of 66th in a time of 18:27. Mark viewed the race a little different, more as a victory lap to a great season. Mark was running strong until a slip and fall in the mud slowed his momentum. Phillips picked himself up and cruised to a 151st place finish in a time of 19:38. The boys were understandably disappointed in their times but vowed to return next year for redemption. I have no doubt in my mind that the boys will toe the start line at Hershey the first weekend of November 2019.
As a note, Desmond and Mark don’t plan to run alone next year. They fully intend to lead the boys team to a qualifying spot. Next year is shaping up to be an exciting one, come be a part of it!
