It seems like it has been an eternity since the Middle School basketball team took the court.
There has been lots of change in the last calendar year. One thing that has remained the same though is that this young group of battlers always provides their fans’ unbridled excitement. The Cougars trailed the bigger Fort Cherry team the entire game, struggling to get rebounds and convert easy baskets. But we know in life and basketball it is not how you start it is how you finish. Trailing by 7 going into the 4th quarter, the no quit Cougars finished an epic comeback behind a 10 point 4th quarter by newcomer Damarius Goodman. This comeback was a total team effort that included Goodman’s 16, Lehki’s Turner’s 5, and 4 each by Dean, Mulligan, and Jameson. Before the game, the players heard the message that every possession counts, and this game proved just that. Although, perhaps the biggest play of the game was not by a player at all. First-time official scorekeeper, middle school teacher Tim Sasson, took command of the game and stopped it cold twice in an effort to correct errors on the scoreboard. Like we said, every point counts. Lastly, a big shout out to Co-Head Coach Michael Pfeuffer, who brought big-time enthusiasm and game time adjustments that proved invaluable. This team is lucky to have on our side each time we take the floor at Carnegie Elementary School. Let’s keep the effort and excitement going this Thursday versus the Brentwood Spartans. See you there.
