The Cougars hosted Quaker Valley in a non-section matchup on Monday afternoon. An early lead was taken by the Cougars as Melko capitalized on a lead-off walk putting the home team on the boards first with a 1-0 lead after one complete inning, QV answered with a lead-off single in the 3rd followed by a base on balls which set up the Quakers first two runs of the game as their clean-up hitter placed a two RBI single into shallow right field to give them the lead at 2-1. Carlee Smith hit her 2nd of three hits in the 3rd and scored on an RBI double hit by senior Kayla Glumac. The Quakers took advantage of a couple of throwing errors by the Cougars infield to score their go-ahead run in the 4th as they regained their lead 3-2. The Cougars has trouble finding any gaps in the field as the game winded down.
Down to their last three outs, the Cougars refused to quit, making things interesting with a lead-off single by senior Jasmine Caldwell. Two quick outs later, catcher Madison Ciabattoni singled to ignite some excitement on the bench putting Carlee Smith at bat with the game on the line. She blasted a two-RBI triple winning the game for th Cougars 4-3!
The Cougars will travel to Youthtown to play their last section game of the season against rival OLSH on Tuesday at 5:00.
