The girls’ swim team opened section competition in a fiercely contested battle against Keystone Oaks.
After diving, the girls entered the 200 Medley Relay down 6-0, but fought back for 2nd (Natali Lutsiv, Libby Hitchings, Ava Gaitens, Sarah Barron) and 3rd place (Kate Mickle, Sarah Pallus, Ella Snyder, Lizzy Volz) finishes. The team of Lutsiv, Hitchings, Gaitens, and Barron qualified for the WPIAL Championship meet in March.
The girls continued to battle through the 50 Free with a 1st place finish by Natali Lutsiv and 2nd place from Sarah Pallus, going into the break with a tie score. Sara MacMurdo added a 1st place finish in the 100 Free to tie up the score again.
The 200 Free Relay of Sara MacMurdo, Sarah Pallus, Ava Gaitens, and Natali Lutsiv picked up vital points by finishing 1st and also qualified for the WPIAL Championship meet.
The team never backed down, taking 2nd (Natali Lutsiv) and 3rd (Ava Gaitens) in the 100 Back which tied up the score once again. Libby Hitchings and Sarah Pallus took 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the 100 Breast to pull ahead.
It all came down to a much-needed 1st place finish in the 400 Free Relay (Sarah Barron, Ella Snyder, Libby Hitchings, Sara MacMurdo) to secure the win.
The girls continue section competition Thursday, January 28 against Chartiers Valley.
