The cougars defeated Steel Valley last night in a nail-biting 5 set match. Steel Valley had an impressive team, that didn’t give up the fight even after going down 2-0 after the first two sets. The Cougars gave their all in the first two sets and their work paid off. Brooke Maxwell played right side hitter and Jasmine Caldwell played out of the right back. Caldwell aced the opponents several times and moved quickly on defense. Erin Fox finished the game playing right side, a new position for the junior, and helped the team with both blocks and kills. Kira Gossard also finished the game in right back with several phenomenal ups off of Steel Valley’s best hitters. Emmaline Stevens displayed her full potential last night, exhibiting her abilities as a defender and offender. In the second set, she blew away the competition with her hitting from the outside. Likewise, Kayla Glumac displayed her understanding of hitting strategy and scored numerous points because of her ability to move her attacks all over the opponent’s side of the court. The team switched up their serving order for the last three sets, allowing middle blocker Brenna Ault to serve first because of her consistency from the back line. Jenna Williams stopped several crucial attacks from Steel Valley from coming over the net by blocking them for points. Jaelyn Melko rotated to serve in the last set and finished the game with an ace.
