The Carlynton Lady Cougars traveled to Ambridge High School for a non section matchup against The Lady Macs of Canon-McMillan HS, and lost a close one 48-38. The Cougars came out of the locker room determined to compete with the much bigger school in Canon McMillan, which plays in the 6A classification. Carlynton was able to knock down 3-three point shots to start the game and take a 12-11 lead into the second quarter. The second quarter was a battle on both ends of the floor and a struggle for the Cougars at the free throw line. Carlynton made only 2 of 8 FTs in the 2nd quarter and went a dismal 11 of 27 for the game, which ultimately was a deciding factor when FGs were tough to come by. Both teams battled on the defensive end all night long and the game was back and forth throughout. The score was tied 18-18 at the half and remained close through 3 quarters with Carlynton taking a slight 30-28 lead into the 4th and final quarter. The 4th quarter saw the Lady Cougars continuing to struggle from the FT line (6 for 12) and allowing the lead and game to get away from them. An injury to standout junior Jada Lee just a couple minutes into the 4th quarter was the turning point of the game. Carlynton was unable to convert on their offensive opportunities in the crucial minutes if the game. The Cougars had some defensive miscues that enabled Canon McMillan to score 20pts in the quarter and win the game by the final score of 48-38. Carlynton had 2 players score in double figures; Angelicah Diallo with 10pts and Amanda Masdea also with 10pts, including 3-3s. Canon McMillan was lead in scoring by Tamara Mathis with 18pts. Carlynton will host Keystone Oaks on Monday night for the final home game of the season.
