The Carlynton Lady Cougars traveled to Valley for a Section 3 matchup. After a slow start and an overall sloppy first half played by both teams, the Lady Cougars held a 25-15 halftime lead. The first half was played mostly with star junior guard Jada Lee and fellow junior forward Haley Williams on the bench due to a lack of execution with the squard. The decision to sit the two provided an opportunity for the younger players to get valuable playing time. The Lady Cougars came out of the locker room from half-time showing much better body language and appeared to be re-energized and focused. The results showed on the court and the scoreboard with the Cougars scoring 28 points in the third quarter and finishing with 21 points in the 4th quarter to win decisively 74-31. The Cougars held the Lady Vikings to just 16 points in the second half by applying full court pressure that resulted in significant turnovers. The Cougars were lead by star junior Jada Lee who had a triple double, 20 pts/10 rebs / 10 assist. Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars were juniors Angelicah Diallo, 20 pts/ 11 rebounds, Jaelyn Melko, 10pts, and freshman Kendall Kline with 16pts. The Vikings were led by Avi Perkins with 12 pts. The Cougars will play next when they host section opponent Steel Valley on Monday Jan 14.
